The Innovation Academy Charter School completed its inaugural high school soccer season last week. The co-ed team of fifteen competed against other charter school teams from Marlborough, Marblehead, Fitchburg and Norwell in a total of seven games. Coaches Scott Glidden and Mairead Orpen were very impressed with the performance of the team. “For a first year program the team was very competitive and showed a lot of individual and team growth as the season went on. The players are already talking about next season!” The team ended the season with a record of 2-4-1, while loosing only one of their last four games.

Team athletics or participation in a physical activity is required of all students at Innovation Academy. “This was more than a commitment,” said Athletic Director Gayle Nutile-Pimm, “the enthusiasm and school spirit was evident on and off the field. The students knew they’re a part of something special and the pride of being part an inaugural team sport was something they carried in to every game.”
